Needle Propagation and Twinkling Characteristics

چکیده

Recently, a new lightning phenomena, termed needles, has been observed in both VHF and optical along positive leaders. They appear as small (<100 m) leader branches that undergo dielectric breakdown at regular intervals (called twinkles). Providing coherent consistent explanation for this phenomenon is challenging each twinkle form of negative propagates away from the leader. In study, we provide detailed observations needles VHF, during two flashes. We show distributions different needle properties, including propagation speeds, time between twinkles, lengths, among others. return stroke multiple recoil leaders quench activity. also nearby activity does not seem to correlate together, twinkling can slow down by 10%–30% per twinkle. conclude presenting possibilities how could induce channel, argue twinkles propagate like stepped or depending on temperature needle, which implies probably without emitting VHF.

Pulsar twinkling and relativity

The number of pulsars with detected emission at X-ray and γ-ray energies has been steadily growing, showing that beams of high-energy particles are commonly accelerated in pulsar magnetospheres, even though the location and number of acceleration sites remain unsettled. Acceleration near the magnetic poles, close to the polar cap surface or to higher altitudes in the slot gap along the last ope...

Twinkling sign?

the patient's medical records and conditions, as a firm examination including a skin biopsy must be undertaken. Robert F. Reilly reported that they might have missed milder presentations of NSF, or the clinicians may have missed full-blown cases of NSF [7]. In the FINEST study [8], which the authors are also mentioning in their comments, we find it interesting that, among the 308 patients inclu...

Bifurcations in Twinkling Oscillators

We present the underlying dynamics of snap-through structures that exhibit twinkling. Twinkling occurs when the nonlinear structure is loaded slowly and the masses snap-through, converting the low frequency input to high frequency oscillations. We have studied a nonlinear spring-mass chain loaded by a quasistatic pull. The spring forces are assumed to be cubic with intervals of negative stiffne...

MICROCELLULAR PROPAGATION CHARACTERISTICS Howard

To enhance the spectral efficiency and to improve service quality for cellular radio systems, a new microcellular system has been proposed [1-5] that operate over a relatively short radio path (on the order of 200 m to 1000 m), using relatively low antennas (about the same height as lamp posts), and transmitting at relatively low power (typically on the order of 10 m W). This new concept of mic...

Global “eclipse” Bifurcation in a Twinkling Oscillator

This work regards the use of cubic springs with intervals of negative stiffness, in other words “snap-through” elements, in order to convert low-frequency ambient vibrations into highfrequency oscillations, referred to as “twinkling”. The focus of this paper is on a global bifurcation of a two-mass chain which, in the symmetric system, involves infinitely many equilibria at the bifurcation poin...
